This DIY wall decor is made from simple items from Dollar Tree, Michaels, and a few other things you may have in your craft collection. I have made 2 examples, but with this project you can use your imagination and come up with whatever fits your style. It can even be left plain with just the mirrors and still look fabulous! Let’s dive into this DIY!
From Dollar Tree:
1 roll of satin ribbon
12 mirror candle holders (I chose octagon, but there are square and circle too)
Push pins with hooks(optional)
From Michaels craft store:
1 wooden dowel
Decorative paper of your choice (optional)
Tape, or craft glue if not using glue dots
Glue gun and glue sticks
Piece of card stock paper or card board
*Before you start, spay paint the wooden rod and let it dry for a couple of hours.
Begin with taking one of the mirrors and tracing the outline onto a piece of thick paper or cardboard and cut it out. I used a cereal box.
After I cut out my shape, I just cut down each edge of the octagon until it was the size that I wanted.
If you choose to use photos, you can use the cut out to trace onto the photo and cut them out. By the way, I printed 12 4×6 photos from Walgreens for about $3.50. It is super easy to upload photos from your phone or computer and they are ready in about an hour for you to pick up! They often offer coupons for online printing so look around. If you choose to go with the decorative paper option, you can also use the cut out to trace onto the paper.
Now you will need to cut 3 pieces of ribbon to a length that you prefer. I would suggest laying the mirrors on first so you can see how you want them spaced, and then cut the ribbon accordingly. Be sure to leave about an extra 4 inches to wrap over the wooden dowel. Hot glue the end of the ribbon and fold over. I allowed the ribbon loop to be loose so that I could move them up and down the dowel.
You can use a spacer to make sure that the mirrors are placed at the same distance along the ribbon. Put a generous line of hot glue down the center of the back of the mirror, and press down the ribbon.
Repeat these steps and hot glue all of the remaining mirrors.
At this point you can leave the mirrors plain, stick on the photos, or decorative paper. I used regular Scotch tape so that if I wanted a change, it wouldn’t be difficult to remove. I did add a ribbon to the top with hot glue, so that I could hang my wall decor.
These are the push pins from the Dollar Tree that I used. They have a hook on the end and the pin is pointed downward so they don’t just slide out. I did end up spray painting them black. I used 2 on my wall for the ribbon to hang on, they worked perfect for me. Feel free to hang it any way you see fit. : )
